TRADITIONAL’S REIN AT NEW ZEALAND HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW

Horse of The Year Show ran during the first week of March in New Zealand and we were excited to have our first ever gypsy cob classes at this year’s show.   We had four title classes this year, Ridden Purebred Gypsy Cob,  In hand Purebred Gypsy Cob,  Ridden Part bred Gypsy Cob and In hand Part bred Gypsy Cob.   Our goal for next year is a Gypsy Cob section with a full range of classes.

Not even the cold drizzle could dampen the spirits in the Gypsy Cob ring, as competitors participated in the breed's inaugural HOY outing. It was a clean sweep for both the Purebred and Part bred classes, with The Loveable Rogue and Nicola Gauld winning both the In hand and Ridden Purebred titles, and Rosie's Prince Charming with Annika Jackson winning both the In hand and Ridden Part bred titles.   Feedback from the two judges was very favourable with them being impressed with the quality of both the purebreds and part breds.

There were lots of UK connections with the horses competing.   The Lovable Rogue was previously owned by Dawna Harrison in the UK.  Gallifrays Captain Jack, Westfield Belle and Rosie’s Prince Charming are all sired by John Brodie who was owned by Jacquie Bland of Paintball Gypsy Cobs.   Keyra was imported from Ireland.  Swanhaven Boots ‘n’ All is out of Clononeen Frangelica imported from Clononeen Farms in England.   Toy Boy is by Montieth Ridge Bow, formally known as Brackenhill Bow bred by James Taylor, and Beau Regard is by the UK stallion All That Jazz.
